Lassonde Institute of Mining names first Director of Industry Partnerships, Kurt Breede (GeoE 9T6)

Continuing to redefine research and education leadership, the Lassonde Institute of Mining is proud to announce the appointment of industry veteran and U of T Engineering alumnus Kurt Breede (GeoE 9T6) as the first-ever Lassonde Institute of Mining Director of Industry Partnerships.

Through deep, collaborative partnerships and comprehensive community building, Breede will lay the groundwork in establishing a direct link between the Institute’s principal investigators and the mining sector. In his new role, he will position the Lassonde Institute in effectively delivering transformative innovations to today’s critical problems identified by industry.

Breede is an accomplished senior executive in the Canadian mining industry with over 20 years of experience. For the past 10 years, he served as Vice President, Marketing and Partner at Watts, Griffis and McOuat Limited (WGM), Canada’s longest-running independent firm of geological and mining consultants. Kurt’s broad expertise ranges from marketing and business development to mineral resource estimation and strategic mine planning. Prior to joining WGM, Kurt was a Senior Business Analyst with Gemcom Software (now Dassault Systèmes), a leading developer of geological and mine planning software systems.

This new appointment signifies the next evolution for the Lassonde Institute of Mining, reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to supporting Canada’s role as a global leader within the industry. Through Lassonde innovations, the Institute will continue solving the most pressing scientific challenges facing industry today and into the future.
